My philosophy with Big Vision Publishing on the licensing and selling of art is different than most I would say. It is based primarily on my 40 plus years of experience as an artist and having my work published as posters, calendars and jigsaw puzzles myself. I believe that lifetime of experience allows me to deal with and understand the needs of the artists (as well as the publishing companies) much better than the average artist agent might. I know the difference between a great artist proof and a terrible one, I know what is and is not a proper and fair royalty rate for an artist to receive. When it involves the preparation of a print ready image to the publishing companies I know what needs to be done and how to go about doing it. I completed 5 years of college in 2008 and received my degree in Digital Communication focusing on all of the Adobe Creative Suite programs, Photoshop, Dreamweaver (web coding and design), InDesign (digital publishing) and Digital Animation. I know how to crop an image (if needed, and it often is) for publication the correct way without completely gutting it's subject matter to maintain it's inherent balance and composistion. I know how to digitally publish and distribute a large size art book from start to finish.
When it comes to working with artists I know first hand the frustrations, the disappointments, the rejection and insecurities that an artist goes through when trying to get their work published. I also know the thrill of having your art published, distributed and sold world-wide and seeing it up in other peoples bedroom walls or on a calendar too. I first had my paintings published as wall posters and sold in 1975 from a great publishing company in the UK called Big O Posters. At the time there were only 3 or 4 really important poster companies that I knew of in the entire world publishing posters in the “fantasy art, new age spiritual or the psychedelic, or whatever you wish to label it” genre (of which Big O was one). These companies were printing high quality wall posters and marketing them on a mass scale to college aged people, in “head” or “smoke” and record shops and in specialty gift stores in malls etc. in the U.K. and the U.S. Big O as well as some of those other companies published some great names in poster art to be sure, HR Giger, Mati Klarwein, Robert Venosa, Roger Dean, Jim Burns, Martin Sharp, Max Ernst and many many other ground breaking artists during that exciting time in that golden age of poster art history.
